Oscoda County Road Commission
Oscoda County Road Commission will hire seasonal workers for assorted positions this summer (June 1 – August 31). Seasonal laborers must be at least 18 years of age.
Seasonal laborers must pass a Michigan Department of Transportation Physical. This physical will be required for those chosen for hire and will be arranged and paid for by the Oscoda County Road Commission before starting employment.
Seasonal laborers must have a valid Michigan driver’s license (this is a must-have)
Seasonal laborers will be paid $18.00 per hour.
Seasonal laborers will work Monday through Thursday, 10 hours per day or overtime as needed.
Starting time of work – 6 am.
Ending time of work – 4:30 pm.
Seasonal laborers will receive no benefits (no paid holidays, vacation pay, or paid health insurance) except for ESTA (Earned Sick Time Act). Seasonal laborers earn one hour for every 30 hours worked. However, the waiting period before you can use it is 120 days. Since your employment will probably be shorter than that, you might not be able to use it unless you are hired again.
Seasonal laborers will receive one (1) paid 15-minute break in the morning (for coffee, rest, etc.)
Seasonal laborers may take an unpaid 30-minute break at 12 pm
Seasonal laborers must wear safety shoes/boots (not supplied) during working hours.
Seasonal laborers will be provided with vision and hearing protection along with an approved hard hat, safety vest, and gloves.
Major Tasks
- Must be able to work as a traffic regulator, this is a person who regulates traffic, installs and removes assorted working signs along project areas of the road (we will supply all of the training for this job).
- Must be able to walk on an assortment of flat or uneven surfaces, stand in one place for long periods of time, lift packages weighing a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted, operate an air compressor wand and hot sealant wand for filling cracks on pavement (we will supply all the training for this job).
- Must be able to drive a pickup truck with or without a trailer (crack-seal/equipment/sign trailer) proficiently.
- Must be able to remove grass/weeds proficiently from roadside right-of-ways and on Oscoda County Road Commission properties with power tools such as but not limited to lawn mower, weed whacker, etc.
- Must be able to paint assorted objects, such as but not limited to buildings, walls, fences/gates, proficiently.
- Must be able to use hand tools proficiently, such as but not limited to spade and flat shovels, rakes, brooms, brushes, wrenches, hammers, etc.
- Working Conditions – Must be able to work indoors (hot or cold), outdoors (hot or cold), in full sun, rain (rain gear will be provided), wind, on public roads with traffic, in creeks/streams (hip boots will be provided), remove debris from ditches and culverts, pick up trash along roadway, etc.
