Place that sign behind the line!
What happens when your sign goes from a symbol of support to a dangerous roadway obstruction?
Political signs in the right-of-way can cause problems for both roadworkers and motorists.
When you place a sign too close to the road, it can interfere with roadworkers performing essential maintenance tasks like mowing or digging. AND signs blocking motorists’ line of vision are very dangerous.
So where can you put that sign? Place signs behind sidewalks or utility poles, as these are typically located at the far edge of the right-of-way.
County road agencies have policies for sign placement, so contact your local road agency for guidelines. Post your sign correctly – and protect roadworkers and motorists alike.
