Permits are required when moving vehicles or buildings that exceed legal maximums on county roads. If you need such a permit, you will need one in every county, and many municipalities, through which will travel. Occasionally, you will need a permit from the Michigan Department of Transportation.
For more information on permits by county, please visit our Find a County Road Agency page and click on the county you are looking for to be taken to their website. Most Michigan county road agencies are using unified permits developed by the County Road Association of Michigan’s Engineering Committee. Consult the Guidelines for Unified Permits.
You will need to make direct contact with the Municipalities along your route. If you are travelling on roads under MDOT jurisdiction (I, M and U.s. Routes for example), you can obtain permit information by visiting MDOT's MiTRIP permits website.
